Lament for the Fallen

Sad to say I got the inspiration for these lyrics from witnessing a Christian band backslide. It was something that was hard to watch as a young Christian who thoroughly enjoyed their music. I'm unsure exactly how it happened, but the member who had the strongest relationship with Christ either left or was asked to leave the band. After that, the fire died out pretty quickly as they transitioned from singing about the glory of God and spiritual warfare to singing about Greek mythology and suicide. This lament is not just for them, but for all who have fallen away to return to God with repentant hearts or face the eternal consequences of sin.

Lament for the Fallen

Where has my loyal servant gone?
Hands once held in prayer
covered with blood
Your soul cries out for living water
Your well neglected, has gone dry
Why have you forsaken
your Rock and Salvation
your heart snatched away
by a thief in the night
Blind eyes look away
Blue skies turn to grey
Every raindrop a tear from Heaven

My sons what have you done?
Lips that once gave me praise
Flirt with the world
I await your return
With arms open wide

Blind eyes look away
Blue skies turn to grey
Every raindrop a tear from Heaven

Withering trees turn from your ways
Or I’ll rebuke you at my gates
You’ll be torn apart no mercy no grace
Just come back to me
Though your sins are like scarlet
Shall be white as snow

Blind eyes look away
Blue skies turn to grey
